...happened in this game:
Countless hours spent winding out an F40 and a 959 (that’s all the Commodore 64 version of The Duel had without the expansion packs) trying to run from the CHP.
Later on, With the expansion packs, the game would expose me to experiences behind the wheel of a ‘67 GTO, a ‘69 C.O.P.O. Camaro, and a ‘70 Superbird running from the German police and the French police.

Test drive is how I learned what a manual transmission was, since my family didn’t have anything but automatics. I was able to drive my friend’s Scirocco 5-speed with no coaching after just playing that silly video game.

Neat! Never played that one. Let’s see if anyone remembers these:

That game was awesome! I picked the ‘63 Split Window every time...lost in every race I was in. Still fun.

I never played Grand Prix Circuit, or Cisco Heat ... instead, my driving time post Commodore was invested in Rad Racer.

No kidding! I tried the manual transmission mode and failed abysmally at it and stuck to button-click upshifting and downshifting. I managed the gear changes but could never get any serious upshifting or something trying to manipulate the joystick and steer during a race.

Street Rod II. My brother had a copy on his computer, and I got hooked. It was like American Graffiti. The best part was you had to root through the newspaper ads for parts, and cars, and then take it home and tune it. So simple, yet so cool.
